From horses to the engine
The steam-powered carriage was an immediate success and spread quickly thanks to orders from some of the most renowned families of the period. The motor car became an inexorable symbol of the industrialisation that characterised the end of the 19th century.
In 1905 Castagna built the legendary “Sparviero” for Queen Margherita of Savoy on a Fiat 24 HP chassis. This magnificent white double phaeton was heavily furnished with accessories and used by the Queen to compete personally in the Susa-Moncenisio race, one of the most important of the time.
Castagna was present with his own engine-driven products in the most important international trade fairs and the old premises in via della Chiusa was completely revamped to meet the new demands for production.
